It's Because I Don't Have a Mouse

Yep. That's it. I simply don't live with a mouse.

The whole not being a princess thing was driving me insane. I finally had Tyler sitting with me for a quiet moment the other day and he was pointing to a few of my antiques and he said there is a princess, and there is a princess... So, me being shallow, under appreciated, feeling like I lost EVERYTHING ~ my gosh! A princess! I want to be a princess! (mental foot stomp ~ hands on my hips) I ask him, "Why isn't Mommy a princess?"

"Because you don't live with a mouse." Such a simple answer. I should have known.

By the way ~ it can only be one mouse, not many. Yep, I asked. Again. Why do I do this to myself?

Tyler Started Preschool!

Yep, he's a big kid now.

This morning was Tyler's first day of preschool. He was so excited.

When I yelled, "It's time for school! Everyone in the truck!"

He came running! He had even remembered his backpack.

  • There was no hesitation at the classroom door,

  • there was no, "Mom, I don't want to go to school today."

  • There was no, "Bye, Mom! I love you."

  • Nope. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

It was Tyler running into the classroom to see his new friends and say hi to his new teachers, Miss Brenda and Miss Jen.

Ok, about his outfit...Yes, Tyler wore shoes to school. This photo was taken after school, after lunch, and after he had just had a wrestling match with Aiden over his monster truck. My huge frustration is the school dress code. It says, Do not send your child to school in nice clothes. We will stain them. First of all, cool ~ they are interactive. Duh, it's a preschool, but I want my child to look nice when he goes to school. I feel guilty sending him in his old clothes that I don't care if he ruins. Yes, he still wears glasses, but he has broken them AGAIN. It's not like we live in a town with an eye doctor. Therefore, he has to wait until I am able to get to town to have them fixed ~ AGAIN!

Happy Birthday Grandma Goof!

My mom's birthday is today! Happy Birthday!

Last weekend she came up to visit, and we celebrated her birthday. It was a fun day!

First, we had lunch. I made a pan of chicken enchiladas, and a pan of beef enchiladas (TK's recipe ~ mmmm...), as well as Spanish rice, and a salad. (Which my mom did not eat. She's a big chicken. It had feta cheese in it and she refused. She didn't get all her veggies that day. What kind of role model is that? She doesn't drink milk either, but that is for another day.)

The family dinner.

Ashley, Chandler, Tim, Aiden, Goof holding Isaiah, Larry, Tyler, and hiding behind Tyler, Cameren.
Then, we began a rousing game of Speed Scrabble. At which point, my mother soundly beat the pants off of all of us! She won the first 4 games without blinking an eye! She even had Tyler on her lap while she was trying to play.

Goof and Tyler, her good luck charm!

"OK Tyler, we are going to win every game today. Lets start spelling."

"I won!" Larry needing a Waldo shot! He just wanted to be near a winner.I think she's cheating!

Yeah! I won! (Larry still feeling needy and left out wanted his photo taken too!)

I won again! High five!

OK - this is getting gross. It's a family blog. Back away from the spouse. I'm quitting.
Then, we had cake and ice cream. Actually, it was an ice cream cake. I make them for birthdays. My mom said she wanted chocolate cake with chocolate chip ice cream. Of course we had to have all ?? candles on the cake. When Tim saw the candles he said, "Oh no. Wait for a minute. I'll be right back." Off he went to the shed. He came back with a blow torch! Tim just walked into the room and asked why I was putting fireworks on my blog! Does that say something about all the candles?

We lit her candles with a lighter and a blow torch. Yep, we are very safe around here. By the way, how many homes actually have blow torches in their sheds? Hmmm...

Goof did a GREAT job blowing all of the candles out. Although there was an awful lot of wax on the frosting..."I wanted to blow out the candles." The big kids, Cameren, Ashley, and Chandler.

They quizzed each other on the states and capitals during dessert. Such a lovely conversation. Larry ate three large pieces of cake. Since they have over an hour's worth of driving he knew the cake would not make the trip back to the city. He was bound and determined to get at much as he could.
Of course there were gifts, and cards. Larry and the boys brought up their gifts for grandma too.

Then, sadly, it came time to see them go. My kids never like to see grandparents leave. They climb in their vehicles.
Seriously, do the kids think we wouldn't notice they were gone?

Grandma Goof, we had a great afternoon with you guys. We hope you have a great day!

Love,
Tim, Robyn, Ashley, Tyler, Aiden, and Isaiah

Moody Musings of a Stay At Home Mom

I'm in a funk. A few months ago I was asked to fill out a questionnaire. It was simple and silly. A lot of favorite this and favorite that, what are your short term goals and long term goals both professionally and personally, where do you expect to be in 5 years, blah, blah, blah. Well, it got me to thinking. Yep, it can be frightening. I don't know if I have any favorites. Is green really my favorite color? Why is green my favorite color? How do I like my eggs? I don't know. I just scramble everything. Truly, I don't really care for scrambled eggs. I filled out the questionnaire, mailed it back to the company and went on feeling slightly "off". Then, a couple of days ago, my Dove Promises Dark Chocolate wrapper said to "indulge in your secret desire". I didn't know I was suppose to have a secret desire. What is my secret desire? Is it to own Dove Chocolates? Is it to travel the world? I simply don't know!

Do all stay at home moms lose their identity? Am I alone in this world where I have forgotten myself beyond cook/maid/chauffeur/nurse/organizer/teacher/... My very good friend TK is also a stay at home/ homeschooling mom. Her home is in a horse trailer. She travels with her hubbie as the family rodeos. Normally, I would call her or she would call me and we would always feel good after talking. One of us might be down, but by the end, we would both be feeling good. Yesterday was a different story. We must have both been down. So, TK ~ if your reading this ~ I'm sorry for not being your rock yesterday. I will be better next time. I also started my own personal journey ~ or I will start it. I'm making it public for all the world to hold me accountable for...

  • I will meet with another mom once a week for lunch. (I will not hide in my home.)

  • I will drive to the city once a month for a cultural or fun trip. (We live in the country. No zoos, museums, amusement parks, kid friendly restaurants, water parks, etc.)

  • I will find time every day to exercise.

Yep. That's it. Just three things. I'm ADD ~ if you add to many more in there I would be overwhelmed and simply rebel. So - those of you who know where I live. Please give me suggestions. I'm lost in this land of hibernation. I've decided NOT to let my rural small town keep me down.

I'm going to adventure!

I'm going to find out about ME!

You Know It's Been an Interesting Day When...

Your 3 year old son announces that,

"Mommy, you're not a princess."

Yep, he said it. Totally out of the blue. We were sitting at the table, playing a game of Speed Scrabble, when out of his mouth came the dreaded words, "Mommy, you're not a princess." My world was shattered. Sadly, Tim (my husband) and Larry (my stepdad) were sitting there. My dethronement (is that a word?) was public. I will probably NEVER live this down.

I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for

ICE CREAM!

On a normal Friday night, you would find our little boys tucked into bed. Last Friday however, they were found eating ICE CREAM!

Our family has this ritual:

Tim gets the boys ready for bed.

Robyn heads up to the freeway for ice cream. (It is the closest place to find ice cream!)

Robyn, Tim, and Ashley eat ice cream and watch a movie.

It's not much ~ but, it's what we do.

This week, I told Tim that Tyler deserved to have ice cream with us. So, up to the freeway we went. Fortunately, the weather was amazing and we were able to comfortably sit outside.

I bought a sundae and a cone for Tim, a cone for Tyler, and a cone for the twins to share. The twins don't get a lot of sweets so I didn't want to overload them.

The sharing didn't go so well. Tim ended up giving Isaiah his cone. I thought that I would be able to share with the twins. NO WAY! They were not having any of that.

Isaiah even went so far as to SHOVE the last 3 bites into his mouth all at once. I only asked for a little bite of his cone. He took the entire thing and shoved it into his mouth.

The quiet movie thing? Not quite so quiet. The boys, not being used to that much sugar, were flying off the walls. We finally got Tyler and Isaiah down, but Aiden was planning an all nighter with mom and dad. Oh fun!

Fun in the Sun!

Mmmm... We love watermelon during the summertime. Actually, we like watermelon all the time, but the mess is much easier in the summer!
Things of note:
* Aiden's expressions
* The red watermelon juice that is sliding down their bellies
* The total concentration to one single task"Thank you sir, may I have another?"
